FAQS
What is KX Pilates and how is it different from normal mat-based Pilates?
KX Pilates is a combination of the therapeutic moves of traditional Pilates with the strengthening and toning aspects of circuit training. This dynamic class is performed on a spring resistance apparatus called the Reformer specifically customised for this type of training, that allows the individual to train specific muscles or whole body parts whilst at the same time challenging core strength. With a maximum of eight clients per class, this allows our trainers to focus on each individual to achieve maximum benefits.
I have never done Pilates – should I do a class or a private session first?
That depends on the individual. Ninety nine percent of our new students do just fine attending a class. With only eight clients in the class the trainer can modify the exercises to suit your own ability. Although still quite intense, classes are broken down using simple exercises so all individuals get the most out of their workout. If you have chronic back pain, are coming back from an injury or are pregnant, a one-on-one session would be best to assess your situation.
What do I need to know for my first class?
- Please arrive 10 minutes early to your first class so you can familiarise yourself with the studio, fill out a registration form and meet your trainer. If you’re late to your first class you might not be able to train.
- Appropriate clothing is essential as you are going to work up a sweat! We recommend gym tights or shorts and either a t-shirt or singlet top. Although most clients prefer to train in bare feet, socks are most welcome.
- No mobile phones during classes (please be respectful to others).
- Apart from that you are in good hands – we provide complimentary towels and drinking water and have changing facilities on site.
How often should I do KX Pilates?
Because exercise is such a personal thing, how often you train will depend on your own fitness level, how your body adapts to the training and how well your body can recover. It also depends on what your fitness goals are and what you do outside of KX classes. We recommend starting with no more than two to three classes per week and then increasing from there.
Do I need to be fit to do a KX Pilates Class?
No, absolutely not. As there are only eight clients per class, this allows the trainer to modify each exercise to accommodate each individual`s ability whilst at the same time allowing the client to work at their own pace. However, an exercise history of some sort is recommended.
Is One-on-One Training available?
Yes, one-on-one training is available. If you would like one-on-one training suited to your specific needs, please email us at info@kxpilates.com.au or call (03) 9500 0707
What if I’m already fit. What can KX Pilates do for me?
Well, you’d be surprised! Fitness freaks through to professional athletes alike are turning to KX Pilates to compliment their sport specific training. KX Pilates can make you more resistant to injury, correct weaknesses and enhance core strength and postural alignment.
Can I still do KX Pilates if I have an injury?
It will all depend on your injury and your road to recovery. It’s best to speak to one of our trainers before participating in a class to make sure you’re not putting yourself at risk of further damage. In some cases, you may need to get a medical certificate from your GP before you can attend.
What if I am pregnant – is KX Pilates suitable for me?
First of all, congratulations! If you are already a KX client and were doing regular classes before you fell pregnant, it is usually OK to continue. You will need to let your trainer know and see your GP for a medical assessment and written permission to make sure it’s safe for you and your baby to continue. If you are pregnant and wish to start KX Pilates, speak to one of our trainers to discuss which form of training will be most appropriate for you – group classes or one-on-one.
